My Education

After I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Communications from the University of Michigan,
I worked in the entertainment industry for many years in Chicago and Los Angeles. Although I enjoyed working with actors and celebrities and being part of a team that made television shows and movies, I wanted to challenge myself more and work in a field where I could help people help themselves.

I went back to school to earn a degree in clinical psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology with a focus on marriage and family therapy. After relocating to south Florida, and completing my internship as an outpatient therapist, I became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.

My Training

I had been interested in sex therapy since my Human Sexuality course in my Master’s Degree program. Desirous of expanding my practice to include sex therapy for individuals and couples, I earned a Sex Therapist certification from the Sex Therapy Training Institute in Miami at www.therapycertificationtraining.org. During that training program, I was introduced to the transgender community and their unique challenges with gender dysphoria, and helping them and their loved ones understand and accept them as they emerge into their authentic selves. I decided to seek extensive training as a Transgender Care Therapist with the International Transgender Certification Association at www.transgendercertification.org and was certified in April of 2016. I earned my PhD in Clinical Sexology in February 2018 from the International Institute of Clinical Sexology with a focus on Transgender Care Therapy.

Additionally, I discovered that so many of my clients have experienced childhood trauma, were struggling to cultivate and maintain healthy relationships, had frequent disturbing memories causing distress, and feeling stagnant in their adult lives. I was introduced to EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)—a clinically proven and effective therapy technique that helps people uncover, reprocess and resolve childhood traumatic memories. I completed my EMDRIA- approved basic training and received a certificate of completion in January of 2016.  I also have training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy to help couples learn improved ways to communicate their needs and develop more effective communication skills.
